Altar Guild
The origin of altar guild work goes back to the earliest days of the church. When the first Christians gathered to break bread at each other’s homes, it was the responsibility of the host family to arrange the meal. Today, the purpose of the Altar Guild is to assist the priest and other worship leaders in preparation of that same meal, Holy Eucharist. Much of our behind-the-scene work is to ensure that worship runs smoothly.
Altar Guild ministry is special and holy, an offering to God in response toGod’s love for us, and our desire to share that love with others. We care forthe church and sanctuary, and the linens, vestments and silver used in worship. We assist at weddings and funerals, prepare for special services, and adorn the church with greens and flowers at Christmas and Easter.
We pray together each Saturday when we meet to prepare for Sunday. We support and care for each other through life’s joys and challenges. A wonderful way to learn about the church and its traditions is to join the Altar Guild! Contact Kathie Killen for more information.
