The Reverend Canon Dr. Pat McCaughan, Vicar Emerita
The Rev. Canon Pat McCaughan has served St. George’s about 17 years, in a variety of capacities, including her current role, as Vicar Emerita.
A lifelong Episcopalian, she grew up at St. Matthew’s in Detroit, one of The Episcopal Church’s historically Black congregations. St. Matthew’s founders helped ferry escaping slaves across the Detroit River to freedom in Canada, a proud history.
She blended a former calling as a journalist with her priestly vocation and loves employing both for building up the Kingdom and for her “wacky and wonderful” ministry at St. George’s. She also serves the wider church community as a journalist.
Rev. Pat was ordained a priest in 1998 and holds; a bachelor’s degree in journalism and creative writing from Wayne State University in Detroit; a master of science degree in Journalism from Columbia University in New York City; a master of divinity degree from the General Theological Seminary in New York City and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Claremont School of Theology, in Claremont, California. Her doctoral work focused on the full-bodied joy that fuels resilience and generativity, a foundation of her calling and ministry.
She was named an honorary canon of the Diocese of Los Angeles in 2013 in recognition of her ministry.
